Public sector organization trusts GTS to improve their overall efficiency

Our client, a large public sector organization, faced the challenge of modernizing their aging on-premises infrastructure. They needed to migrate their technology to the cloud in order to better meet the demands of their customers and improve their overall efficiency. We were engaged to assess, design, and migrate their on-prem technology and stand up their new infrastructure in AWS. Our extensive experience working in the public space with SLED (State, Local, Education, and Department) for the public sector made us the perfect partner for this project.

Problem:

The client's on-premises infrastructure was outdated and had become a bottleneck to their ability to meet the demands of their customers. They had limited scalability and the hardware was reaching the end of its life. Additionally, the client was required to comply with Fedramp and GovCloud regulations for the public sector. This added complexity to the project and required a deep understanding of the client's specific requirements.

Solution:

To address these challenges, we performed a detailed assessment of the client's current infrastructure and identified the key components that needed to be migrated to the cloud. We then designed a new infrastructure in AWS that would meet the client's needs and comply with Fedramp and GovCloud regulations.

We began by migrating the client's data center to AWS. We used a combination of AWS services, including EC2, S3, and RDS, to create a highly available and scalable environment. We also set up a VPC to provide enhanced security and isolation for the client's resources.

Once the data center migration was complete, we moved on to migrating the client's applications. We used AWS Elastic Beanstalk to deploy and scale the applications, and we used Route 53 to provide DNS services. We also implemented AWS Elastic Load Balancing to distribute traffic across multiple instances.

To comply with Fedramp and GovCloud regulations, we implemented additional security measures such as AWS Config and AWS Inspector to monitor and enforce compliance policies. We also set up a disaster recovery plan using AWS Backup and AWS CloudFormation to ensure that the client's data and applications would be protected in the event of an emergency.

Finally, we provided training and support to the client's IT team to ensure that they were able to manage and maintain the new infrastructure. We also set up a comprehensive monitoring and alerting system using AWS CloudWatch to ensure that the client's IT team would be notified of any issues in a timely manner.

The project was a great success and the client was very pleased with the results. They were able to modernize their infrastructure, improve their ability to meet the demands of their customers, and comply with Fedramp and GovCloud regulations. The client's IT team was also able to manage and maintain the new infrastructure with ease, thanks to our training and support. Overall, the migration to AWS was a win-win for the client and for us as a business partner.
